Every fire will create some smoke when lighting the fire, since smoke will start at lower temperatures than flames. However, if the fire continues to smoke:
  • Check if the valve of the flue is open
  • The wood you are using may be wet or humid
  • If you use seasoned firewood or wood that has sat outside for too long, it could grow mould or fungus. When you burn this wood, it will burn off the mould and fungus and these things create a lot of smoke. So check your older wood prior to using it to cook with.
  • Make sure the fire was made with gradually increasing and constant live flame,
in order to avoid incomplete combustion

Please note: The quality of your fire will come down to the quality of your wood. If you burn good wood, you’ll have a good fire.
